I love podcasts. I have so many in rotation of all different genres at all times. So of course it’s time to add a little festivity to my roster. Here are my four picks of Christmas podcasts to listen to this December.
Christmas Past
Hosted by Brian Earl, Christmas Past tells the story behind our favourite Christmas traditions. The backstory episodes (including topics such as pantomime, crackers and the twelve days of Christmas) are short and snappy and no longer than 15 minutes. They also post story time and interview episodes that are longer if you want more of a deep dive. I particularly enjoyed the episode on the backstory of nutcrackers.
Bah Humbug – A Christmas Movie Podcast
Helen O’Hara, and several special guests, host this show taking a look at our favourite festive movies as well as this year’s new offerings. Episodes are on average between 30 and 60 minutes long. I would recommend the episode comparing It’s a Wonderful Life to Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square and The Santa Clauses.
Behind The Christmas Hits with Drew Savage
We might know all the words to our favourite Christmas songs but do you know how they came to be? With episodes ranging from only 5-10 minutes, Drew Savage tells us the story behind the song. Some of my favourite episodes include You’re a Mean One Mr Grinch, Driving Home For Christmas and Do They Know It’s Christmas.
Advent Calendar House
For a deep dive into your favourite movies and TV specials, Advent Calendar House is the one for you. Hosted by Mike Westfall and a different special guest with episodes released every July and December. Episodes range on average between 50 minutes to two hours, which is perfect if you want to get stuck into an episode. My favourites include Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas and Disney’s A Christmas Carol.
Have you listened to any of these? Do you have any podcasts to recommend this December?
