When it comes to reading, I’m a thriller girl through and through. But when December roles around I always find myself reaching more for a fluffy and festive romance. Christmas is also pretty much the only time of year where I will re-read my favourites (looking at you A Christmas Carol). If you’re looking for some Christmas spirit, here are my top festive books to read this December.
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

My favourite Christmas story of all time and one I religiously read every December. If you donβt know, this is the story of the grouchy Ebeneezer Scrooge who is haunted by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future at midnight on Christmas Eve. I think I have three different editions of this now; on my Kindle, the audiobook and the Macmillan Collectorβs Library edition.
Twas the Night Shift Before Christmas by Adam Kay

Following on from his hit memoir βThis Is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries on a Junior Doctorβ, Adam Kay is back to share his festive diaries from his time in the NHS. I would highly recommend reading both of these via audiobook as they are read by Kay himself.
Christmas at Tiffanyβs by Karen Swan (on Kindle Unlimited)

Cassie is broken following the breakdown of her 10 year marriage to her first boyfriend. Leaving behind her sheltered life in rural Scotland, she decides to spend four months living with each of her best in their glamorous cities of New York, Paris and London in a bid to find herself. I really enjoyed this via audiobook.
Sleigh Rides and Silver Bells at the Christmas Fair by Heidi Swain

When Anna takes the role of companion to the owner of Wynthorpe Hall, she doesnβt expect to become enamoured with the Christmas loving, eccentric household. Or the youngest son Jamie. The pair make a pact – Anna has to teach Jamie to fall back in love with Wynthorpe Hall and in return he has to teach her to fall back in love with Christmas.
Midnight in Everwood by Maria Kuzniar

A magical retelling of The Nutcracker. The story follows budding ballerina Marietta Stelle in 1906. Following the arrival of the mysterious and menacing Dr Drosselmeier, Marietta is transported to the sugary-sweet and sinister palace of King Gelum in the kingdom of Everwood.
Also I think this might be one of my favourite book covers ever.
I Heart Christmas by Lindsey Kelk (on Kindle Unlimited)

Book #6 in the I Heart series by Lindsey Kelk follows Angela planning a perfect NYC Christmas. And of course featuring her brand new husband Alex and larger than life best friend Jenny. But not much is going to plan.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr Suess

I meanβ¦I donβt think this needs any introduction. A classic Dr Suess tale about everyone’s favourite small-hearted grump.
Winter Wonderland by Belinda Jones

Frozen hearted travel journalist Krista arrives in Quebec to cover the Winter Carnival and discovers a magical wonderland as well as the handsome and mysterious Jacques. The two share a secret that could bond them forever if they would only learn to open up.
Have you read any of these books? What are your favourite festive reads?
